General Tips & Tricks
The following is a handful of useful tips and tricks to help you get started. Whether you’re playing the game for the first time or simply need a little clarification, all the pointers you need can be found here.
- An Eye icon indicates a Hidden Object scene. Click on the icon to open the scene.
- Click on the pocket watch on the right while in a Hidden Object scene to receive a hint. Hints are unlimited, but require time to recharge.
- A Magnifying Glass icon represents an interactive area. Click on the icon to have a closer look.
- Your Logbook is located in the lower left corner of your screen. Any interesting things of note you come across during the game will be recorded here.
- During Hidden Object scenes, sometimes objects will be listed in blue. When this happens, click on the picture of Grey Shadow in the lower left to use the Werewolf’s Special Sight. This will allow you to see objects not normally seen. Click on the picture again to turn it off. You can click this on and off as many times and as quickly as you need without penalty.
- When you want to use an Inventory Item someplace, click and hold, then drag it to the location where you would like to use it.
- You will often need to exit close-ups or puzzles manually once completed by clicking the “x” button in the upper right-hand corner.
- There are multiple wolf emblems hidden in each area. Finding a wolf emblem will provide you with an interesting fact regarding the tale of Red Riding Hood. Wolf emblem locations will be mentioned in the guide below per area.
Red Riding Hood – Star-Crossed Lovers Walkthrough
Welcome to our Red Riding Hood – Star-Crossed Lovers walkthrough! Our walkthrough is divided into three chapters and will guide you through the game every step of the way. If you’re looking for the locations of the Wolf Emblems, which provide interesting facts regarding the tale, be sure to check our Wolf Emblem Fact Locations section at the end of this guide.
Chapter 1: Grandma’s Cottage
Over the river and through the wood to grandmother’s house we go. You will be introduced to Red Riding Hood and her lycanthrope companion, Grey Shadow. The werewolf’s brothers have hatched a scheme for Grey Shadow to capture and eat Red Riding Hood, but the two would rather escape.
Meeting Rock
- Click on the eye icon over the chest on the left to open a Hidden Object scene. Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Once you’ve found everything listed, you will be tasked with finding the Flint Lighter. Find it to finish the area. Your reward will be the item added to your inventory.
- Speak with Red Riding Hood, then enter the shack on the left.
Shack
- Take a closer look at the candle on the floor. Use the Flint Lighter to light it.
- Click on the Eye icon on the right over the shelf to enter a Hidden Object scene. Find the items listed at the bottom of the screen, then locate the Tunic. The location is shown below.
- Go back outside to the Meeting Rock, then continue right to the Crossroads.
Crossroads
- Oh no! Red Riding Hood has been caught in a wolf trap! You won’t be able to help her just yet.
- Proceed right toward the Lumberjack’s Home.
Swamp
- Enter the Trophy Shed on the right.
Trophy Shed
- Click on the Eye icon over the case in front of the window to enter a Hidden Object area. Locate all the objects listed at the bottom of the screen, then find the Lock Pick to add it to your inventory
- Exit the Trophy Shed.
Swamp
- Use the Lock Pick on the door of the Lumberjack’s Home. A puzzle will be triggered in which you must switch sections of the lock in order to open the door. The solution is shown below.
Lumberjack’s Home
- Click on the Eye icon over the shelves at the back of the house to enter a Hidden Object area. Find all the objects listed at the bottom of the screen, then locate the Wolf Seal to add it to your inventory.
- After a brief confrontation with the Lumberjack and his Apprentice, a puzzle will appear over the table on the left. Reassemble the pieces of the torn letter. The complete letter is pictured here.
- Tip: Now we can help Red Riding Hood! Return to the Crossroads.
Crossroads
- Click on the puzzle icon over Red Riding Hood’s foot. Use the Wolf Seal on the large circular groove to activate the puzzle. Recreate the wolf’s image by clicking on the five buttons. Some buttons will cause others to rotate. Once you’ve put the buttons in their correct positions, click on the switch to confirm. The solution is pictured below.
- Now that Red Riding Hood is free, accompany her down the path to the left.
Grandma’s Cottage
- Ring the bell outside the cottage. There’s no answer, but a hidden object area will appear over the front steps. Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Once you’ve located them all, find the Door Key in order to have it added to your inventory. It’s beneath the doormat.
- Take a closer look at the cottage door and use the Door Key on the lock to enter.
Inside Grandma’s Cottage
- Click on the bed. It seems Grandma is in a deep sleep. A hidden object scene will appear over the closet on the left. Locate all the objects listed at the bottom of the screen, then find the Alarm Clock, and it will be added to your inventory.
- Examine the bedside table on the left of the bed and place the Alarm Clock on the table. Read the note on the table: it indicates Grandma’s daily schedule. Click on the Puzzle icon that appears, then set the hands of the clock to 8:15.
- Speak with Grandma until the Eye icon appears over the bookshelf on the right. Locate the objects listed at the bottom of the screen, then locate the Book of Legends to add it to your inventory.
- Leave the cottage and return to the Crossroads.
Crossroads
- Head down the upper right path toward the Village.
Village
- Click on the Eye icon that appears on the left to enter a Hidden Object area. Find all the items listed at the bottom of the screen, then locate the Dirty Brick to add it to your inventory.
- Use the Dirty Brick on the fountain straight ahead to obtain the Healer’s Brick, then take a closer look at the wall on the right and use the Healer’s Brick in the slot to trigger a puzzle.
- Find the matching pairs of bricks. The match solutions for this puzzle are shown below.
Chapter 2: The Health Potion
Old Magadalene the Healer is willing to help Grandma restore her health, but you will need to gather the ingredients for her. A full moon has shown itself in the sky, and Grey Shadow has assumed his wolf form.
Healer’s Hiding Place
- Speak with the Healer. She will give you a list of Health Potion Ingredients, which will be listed in your Logbook.
- Click on the Eye icon over the chest to enter a Hidden Object scene. Locate the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Use the Werewolf’s Special Sight to find the Test Tubes and add them to your inventory.
- Here’s a tip: It’s time to sneak out of town! Find the path quickly to exit the village. Use the arrow keys on the right to move Grey Shadow. If you walk up against an obstruction, you will push it along with you. The path out of the village is shown below:
Crossroads
- Head up the path on the upper left, toward the manor of Grey Shadow and his family of lycanthropes.
Manor Gates
- Click on the Eye icon indicating a Hidden Object scene over the pile of miscellaneous junk on the left. Locate the items listed at the bottom of your screen, then locate the Candle Lantern, and it will be added to your inventory.
- Make your way back to the Meeting Place.
Meeting Place
- There’s a Hidden Object scene over the chest on the left, indicated by an Eye icon. Find all the items listed at the bottom of your screen, then locate the Wolf Statuette using your Werewolf’s Special Sight to add it to your inventory.
- Enter the Shack.
Shack
- Use the Candle Lantern on the shelf on the right wall. This will allow you to enter an otherwise unseen Hidden Object area. Click and hold, then move your cursor around to shine light on the area while locating the items listed at the bottom of the screen. Once you find the Shears, they will be added to your inventory.
- Go back outside to the Meeting Rock.
Meeting Rock
- Examine the hollow beneath the large tree stump. Use the Shears to cut away the brambles, then click on the Dream Berries to collect them.
- Make your way back to the Crossroads and over to the Swamp, then enter the Lumberjack’s Home.
Lumberjack’s Home
- Click on the Eye icon over the back shelf to enter a Hidden Object area. Find the items listed at the bottom of the screen, using your Werewolf’s Special Sight to locate the items in blue. Once you’ve found the Birch Sap, it will be added to your inventory.
- Exit the Lumberjack’s Home and enter the Trophy Shed.
Trophy Shed
- Click on the Hidden Object scene over the toolbox on the right. Locate the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Once you find the Sifter it will be added to your inventory.
- Exit the Trophy Shed back to the Swamp.
Swamp
- Take a closer look at the water to the left of the walkway. Use the Sifter on the water, then click on the Gold Nugget within to add it to your inventory.
- Make your way back to the Manor Gates via the Crossroads.
Manor Gates
- Now it’s time to use the Wolf Statuette you found earlier. Drag it over the alcove to the left of the gate, then click on it to trigger a puzzle. Arrange the statuettes by size and color on the right shelves. The largest figurines should be on the left. The solution is shown below.
- Enter through the gates into the Manor Hall.
Manor Hall
- Take a closer look at the fireplace on the right to enter a puzzle. Pick the right number of Moly and Lotus Shoots. There are six of each, and their locations are outlined below. Once you’ve found them all, the Moly and Lotus Shoots will be added to your inventory.
- Click on the Eye icon over the door on the left to enter a Hidden Object area. Find the objects hidden in the kitchen. Once you find the Code, it will be added to your inventory.
- Exit the Manor Hall out to the Manor Gates.
Manor Gates
- Grey Shadow will speak with Mother Werewolf. A decision is being made.
- Click on the puzzle icon on the left to trigger a brief puzzle in which the goal is to free the Lumberjack’s Apprentice. Toggle the dials so they create the correct combination. The Code is 1989.
- Return to the Healer’s Hiding Place.
Chapter 3: The Escape
Grey Shadow has some difficult decisions to make regarding his future, and Red Riding Hood and her Grandma still need to escape. Time is ticking, and the Werewolf Brothers are not far behind.
Healer’s Hiding Place
- Speak with the Healer and give her the ingredients (Dream Berries, Birch Sap, the Gold Nugget, and the Moly and Lotus Shoots). She will need your help assembling the proper equipment, though. Exit back out to the Village.
Village
- Click on the Eye icon indicating a Hidden Object area on the left. Find the items listed at the bottom of the screen. Once you find the Healer’s Flask it will be added to your inventory.
- Enter the Healer’s Hiding Place again.
Healer’s Hiding Place
- Click on the Hidden Object scene indicated by the Eye icon over the chest. Locate the items listed at the bottom of the screen, using your Werewolf’s Special Sight as necessary. Find the Funnel to add it to your inventory.
- Click on the Puzzle icon on the left. Piece together and assemble the still. Add the Healer’s Flask and Funnel components by placing them in their correct locations. The fully completed still is shown below.
- Speak with the Healer again before leaving for the Manor Gates. Old Magadalene will tip you off regarding an enchanted compass that could cure Grey Shadow of his condition.
Manor Gates
- Click on the Hidden Object area indicated by an Eye icon on the left. Find the items listed at the bottom of your screen. Once you find the Chest Key (Triangle) it will be added to your inventory.
- Enter the Manor Hall.
Manor Hall
- Examine the Hidden Object area on the left as indicated by the Eye. Locate all the items hidden in the kitchen, then collect the Chest Key (Circle) to add it to your inventory.
- Take a closer look at the chest at the back of the Manor Hall. Use the Chest Key (Triangle) and the Chest Key (Circle) on their respective locks, then click on the chest to open it and collect the Magic Compass inside.
- It’s time to meet up with Grandma and Red Riding Hood again. Return to Grandma’s Cottage.
Grandma’s Cottage
- Click on the Hidden Object scene over the front steps. Find the items listed at the bottom of the screen. Find the Blue Rose to add it to your inventory.
- Proceed Inside Grandma’s Cottage.
Inside Grandma’s Cottage
- Speak with Red Riding Hood, then take a closer look at the desk on the right. Examine the paper lying on the desk to trigger a Hidden Object scene in the closet on the left. Find all the objects listed at the bottom of the screen, then locate the Sketch to add it to your inventory. The drawer containing it will open once all the other items have been found.
- Examine the desk on the right again. Place the Sketch on the right side of the desk to trigger a puzzle. Find the 7 differences between the two sketches. They are pictured below.
- Click on the Hidden Object scene that appears over the bookshelf at the back of the room afterward. Find all the items listed at the bottom of the screen. Once you’ve found them all, locate the Peter & Wendy Book. The location is shown below.
- Click on the Peter & Wendy Book to remove the book, revealing the concealed handle. Click on it to reveal the location of the secret passage.

Meeting Rock
- There are multiple Wolf Emblems in this location. They can be found:
- Above the overhang of the shack
- On the trunk of the tree to the right
- Over the ivy below Red Riding Hood’s feet
- In the key above the tree line
Shack

Lumberjack’s Home
- While a Werewolf may not be welcome, several Wolf Emblems have made themselves at home here. They are:
- On the window on the left
- On the wall to the right of the window
- On the far wall beneath the moose head
- On the far right wall above the bed
Grandma’s Cottage
- There’s more than one big bad Wolf Emblem in this area:
- In the grass beneath the cottage window on the left
- In the sky above the tree line, to the left of the castle
- In the trees to the right, above the end of the fence
- Above the darkened window on the second floor of the house
Inside Grandma’s Cottage
- There’s no wolf in the bed this time, but there are several Wolf Emblems around:
- In the corner, on the left wall
- On the floor to the left of the stool
- Above the bed and beneath the canopy

Village
- At least Wolf Emblems don’t eat people, that we know of. But if you want to be on the lookout, you can find them here:
